Venture Philanthropy Grants

The New Africa Fund supports organizations with a clear mission and gives them the tools to grow and develop exponentially through the Venture Philanthropy (VP) grants. The VP grants provide stable funding with the idea that these organizations will be able to use that time to grow and become sustainable.

In addition to financial support, these organizations will benefit from NAF trainings to improve their overall financial systems, grant writing skills, guidance on developing relevant policies, and trainings for Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).

Through the VP grants, instead of funding specific projects, the NAF prioritizes organizations with a clear vision and mission and a track record of results. This granting program does not prioritize one area of intervention over another, nor does it favor large organizations over smaller ones. It simply is looking for organizations with creative solutions to local problems. The New Africa Fund supports local NGOs, CBOs, and Social Enterprises, focusing on organizations aligned with its values and vision of a strong and independent civil society all over Africa. Organizations led by women are especially encouraged to apply. Please note that our grants are awarded through a competitive application process only, and we do not accept unsolicited applications.

Once a grantee has been identified they will receive funding for two years with the possibility of receiving funding for a maximum of four years depending on agreed upon performance indicators. The maximum grant allowed is 25% of the organization's overall operating budget (based on a five-year average) up to a maximum amount of $50,000. In rare cases the NAF can fund up to 35% of the organization’s budget in the first year, but that will be reduced in year two.

Please note -

In 2025, the NAF will not hold an open call for the VP grants.

The 2025 VP grantees will be chosen from our AIF grantees who excel in the program.
